Having been in the Wood Industry since 1943, Hertzog & Anna Kluyts decided to started Kluyts and Co. in 1962. Hertzog kluyts started a small furniture workshop after serving his apprenticeship and working for one of the furniture manufacturers in Knysna. His meticulous attention to detail on all his pieces, well balanced proportions and most importantly his fine finishes, have ensured his success.
Purely by word of mouth his reputation grew and due to the increased demand it was necessary to expand onto larger premises. The large factory is situated on a hill with a panoramic view of Knysna Lagoon and the Outeniqua Mountains where we invite the public to visit the factory showroom or our well positioned showroom on 18 Gray Street.
Using age-old techniques of cabinet making, each piece is individually hand assembled and finished. Continuing the exacting trade, all cabinet makers undergo an apprenticeship program including in-house training under the watchful eye of Mr Kluyts himself. This ensures the production of quality crafted furniture. Hertzog's son, Theodore now co-manages the business, so continuing the Kluyts family legacy.
